The Upper Promenade overlooks the walls of the City and has taken this route since the Middle Bronze Period (Patriarchal Period). Sections of the ancient wall, which has been partially restored, continued to protect the City of David until the end of the First Temple Period. At the end of the 8th century, an additional external wall was built in order to protect the new neighborhood that was founded east of the original wall.
